Sharing what makes you happy

This morning I felt a burst of creative energy and decided to make myself something pretty in the small amount of time before work.

Recently I've been itching to make something outside my wheelhouse. I don't know what I've been watching lately that caused the desire to make pretty, shiny things to go with my cross stitching. Floss drops, thread charms, floss jewelry, whatever you want to call it, I want to make it.

Anyways, this morning I decided it was time to make myself a scissor fob with some beads I recently purchased.

Making the scissor fob took a bit longer than I thought it would.  I kept stringing beads on the beading wire, then taking them off and trying different arrangements.

Before I knew it, my clock was chiming (or bird calling) the hour and I was in the midst of finishing off the fob.  I was struggling to tighten the bead wire and making sure the beads were snug against each other before crimping the crimping bead.

I was so pleased with the finished product that I immediately snapped a photo and shared it on my social media.

Am I a beading newbie? Yes. Years back I thought I'd give beading and jewelry making a try so I could make my own pretty stitch markers. It was a fairly quick phase I went through.  At the time, I thought the stitch markers I made weren't very good in comparison to what I was seeing other people make, so I stopped making them.

Also, at that time the only place I could purchase beads from was a big box store that didn't have a very large selection of supplies.  More than a decade later this is still true. If I want anything that isn't basic I either have to drive across the bridge and go up on the hill or order something online.

My stitch marker-making hobby was pretty much over almost as quick as it started, thanks to my lack of confidence in something brand new to me and feeling like what I was creating wasn't good enough and never would be. All I needed was some practice. On social media all I could see was that people were making beautiful things and mine just didn't compare.

I should also mention this time period was also at the start of social media websites, and everyone was excitedly sharing things on Instagram and Facebook.

It's too bad that I didn't hear Angela Walter's words of encouragement at that time.  Granted, she's coming from a quilting background, but it applies to all sorts of things. Her list of things to stop doing, so you can enjoy the process of your creating more, and her reiteration of comparison being the thief of joy really resonated with me when I first saw her video 4 years ago, or so.

1. Stop comparing your worst to everyone else's best.

2. Stop pointing out your own mistakes.

3. Don't forget the purpose of your project.

The point I'm trying to get to is this: Don't think your creation is lacking just because you are new to creating that particular thing and it doesn't look like what you see on social media. Be proud of what you have created with your own two hands. Don't be afraid to share your work and what makes you happy.  You never know who you may inspire.

In the grand scheme of things does it really matter?

Okay, so that title may not make a whole lot of sense. But let me explain a bit.

About a year ago my heart went out of blogging. I thought "I don't care, I'm not embarrassed, I'm gonna keep on keeping on. I did nothing wrong.

And I think I did a good job of that in the beginning. The time spans between posts are getting longer and longer. I had seen other people abandon their blogs and I was determined that I wasn't going to do that.

However as life as gotten more complicated and I wasn't knitting much over the summer I fell away from blogging.

Well, part of it *is* because I haven't been knitting a lot, but another part of it is because in a way I feel like I'm wearing a scarlet letter -- choose any letter -- because of something out of my control I've been labeled. Do I deserve it? No, none of us do. And no matter how nice I am on other places on the web I feel people are going to make assumptions about me right off the bat.

Now I would be a fool to think that I'm *so important* that everyone in the knitting community knows what this even about or who I am. In reality I'm sure I'm a very tiny blip on the radar of the knitting community.

But then it's hard to believe that when I see how people are coming onto my blog. Sometimes in waves I get hits.

When I first started knitting I scoured the blogosphere. I was constantly on the search for patterns, how-to's, and all kind of ideas to help me on this adventure I was on. I wanted to still leave my mark on the knitting community and in a way I have.

Until the last couple years I never knew how nasty the online community can be. It doesn't matter what online group you are a part of either. But I have also learned that it blows over and then the next month there is some sort of other drama that is taking up people's time.

I could remove certain blog entries from here. Other people's links would be dead, but I would still be out there and I want people to know other people's side of the story.

So what do I do now? Do I just end the blog or do I start a new blog. Fresh start and all that.

I'm gonna have to stew on it for a little bit but I think I know my answer.

Yes, this is *that* blog entry ...

You know, the first one after not blogging for like a month.

So here is a couple of daisy's from the garden.

Once again, life is busy, but thanks to having a day off from work and basically unplugging from the Internet I feel like I'm starting to catch up on things and starting to feel balance again.

Work is still crazy, but I'm getting used to that. It will still be a while before things settle back down into a routine.

I've finished some things and started some things. I will post them all separately.

This past weekend we went strawberry picking. I got my canning fix and out of one bucket of strawberries I got 12 - 8 ounce jars and 6 pints of strawberry jam. It is very yummy if I do say so myself.

I have also collected a new hobby. I am now a geocacher. Last Monday I got my new handheld GPS. It took me a while to figure it out. But once I did, everything else seems to be just falling into place. We got this one because it has all the maps you could want. Some GPSs make you buy the maps and the cheap ends up expensive. And since I figured I'd want this to OTR directions as well, this one seemed like the perfect one. I'm very happy with it.

So far we have found three geocaches. We even discovered a cemetery that we didn't know existed. It's somewhere around 100 years old but someone is still taking care of it. There were little flags next to some of the tombstones. I'd love to go back there and stay longer but the flying bugs were bad even with having repellent on.

My baby tomatoes seem to be doing great.

They are about 3 weeks old and are just getting their second set of true leaves. The are looking pretty healthy. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I know at some point they are going to be too big for my little bookshelf green house. I may make a light stand out of PVC so I can adjust the lights once these guys are in bigger pots. I'm debating on whether to bring the bigger bookshelf greenhouse up from the garage. I've have to rearrange some stuff in the living room if I do. Then I suppose I'd have a good excuse to start even more plants.

cold brew coffee revisted

I forgot to post an update after I tried the cold brew coffee. It's really good. I can't drink it black, but I can use *WAY* less creamer for it. It is much smoother. In fact, I tried to pawn some off on my MIL and she was having none of that, lol. She's strictly a drip brew coffee gal.

I followed the recipe Meghan from the StitchIt! podcast posted on her Web site.

Frogged the last UFO this morning

Apparently I thought that there was a lot more time to this month than there really is. Just goes to show how busy I am at work. Where the heck did the month go? Last night I thought it was Wednesday. Maybe I am itching for it to be the weekend again? lol.

So yeah, I frogged the last thing this morning. It was a simple shawl made out of the LionBrand sparkley mohair yarn. I set it aside some time ago because I made yarn overs in the wrong place and it was *so* obvious. I'm kind of bummed because it was three balls worth of yarn. I was more than 1/2 way done with it. *sigh* oh well.

But now everything is off the needles, so to speak, and I can now start anything I want. I'm seriously debateing on having a project at work, in the car and one for around the house. But I can't decide if that will be too much. I also have to start thinking of another gift to give come July but I don't know what this person would appreciate. A hat, should I try to make socks, or just look on their Amazon wishlist?

knitters block?

Cause I seem to have it, lol.

This weekend I was sick. And with all this talk about the swine flu, who knows if I got it or not.

Last week I had the problem with the sock heel. So I decided to rip it and be done. Then I could have kicked myself once I figured out my problem.

So I got some knitting magazines from the library. I really like Knit Simple from Vogue. I can't tell if it's cause they have a lot of patterns that I could see myself wearing or the bright colors most everything was done in.

I found a couple patterns for lace shawls and stoles

I decided this weekend that, Yes, I am going to frog the MS KAL 5 stole. So I found a pattern to use the yarn with. It's simple and elegant looking. I hadn't invested a TON of time in the MS KAL. It's not that the pattern isn't pretty, but I think that, at this place in my life, where I have a lot of brain power being expended, I want something with a simple repeat and this new pattern has it.

There is one more UFO hanging around the house. It's the start of a simple little mitten for DS. I'm gonna frog that as well. The rest of this month is going to be used to organize new projects, go through my little stash and possibly give some up. Most of my stash of other yarns is acryllics. I bought it all with the intention of making blankets and stuff. Maybe I should finally start a blanket? That should be simple, right? LOL, I have been thinking of starting a modern log cabin blanket.

Other than the one project (which I still can't share of photo of yet) I have finished nothing else. I didn't even finish the bobbin I started earlier this month. This has been kind of a poor knitting month now that I think of it.

Couldn't have said it better myself. ...

Some of my buddies said it better than I could have here or here.

www.ravelry.com is a boon to knitters everywhere. Well, most of them. But what gets me is part of their "guidelines"

ravelry is for all ages

* Refrain from adult language on the Main Six boards (For the Love or Ravelry, Yarn, Patterns, Techniques, Needlework on the Net, and Remnants). Also note that some of the 6000+ other group boards have their own rules about using adult language.
* Rule No adult language in avatars or usernames.
* Rule Nudity in avatars or other photos is not permitted.

*ahem* a group dedicated to crotch shots is family friendly? Not in my family

Course my favorite rule is "Be Excellent" with each other. WTH does that mean? That's listed under the Ravelry Eqituette

But what do I know. Apparently I'm a whole host of things that I won't post on here because *I* try to keep my little space on the internet friendly to people of all ages.

Happy 100th!

Happy 100th post. O mine gorsh, has it really been 100 posts?

Considering I started this blog lil more than a year ago with absolutely no direction and idea as to what I was gonna put on here, I'm amazed that I hit 100 so soon.

It must be that I am beginning to get so comfortable with blogging. Or maybe it's because I found the knitting community and love the idea of sharing my projects and ideas. I have no idea who reads or if anyone reads it outside of my mom's group. LOL not even sure if anyone from there reads it on a regular basis.

Wow, 100, pretty neat. That means I'm blogging more than once a week. I thought that it would be especially hard to do even *that* much.

My little stamp on the internets.

~Geronimo's Caddillac~

They put Geronimo in jail down South
Where he couldn't look a gift horse in a mouth
Sergeant, Sergeant don't you feel
There's something wrong with your automobile
Warden, Warden, listen to me
Be brave and set Geronimo free
Governor, Governor, 'aint it strange
You never see a car on the Indian range

Oh boys take me back
I wanna ride in Geronimo's Cadillac
Oh boys I wanna see it for real
I wanna ride in Geronimo's automobile
Take me, take me, take me back
I wanna ride in Geronimo's [Cadillac]

Warden, Warden, don't you know
The prisoners 'aint got no place to go
It took ol'Geronimo by storm
They took the badges from his uniform
Jesus told me and I believe it's true
The redmen are in the sunset too
They stole their land and they won't give it back
And they sent Geronimo a Cadillac

Oh boys take me back
I wanna ride in Geronimo's Cadillac
Oh boys I wanna see it for real
I wanna ride in Geronimo's automobile
Take me, take me, take me back
I wanna ride in Geronimo's [Cadillac]

They put Geronimo in jail down South
Where he couldn't look a gift horse in a mouth
Sergeant, Sergeant don't you feel
There's something wrong with your automobile
Warden, Warden, listen to me
Be brave and set Geronimo free
Governor, Governor, 'aint it strange
You never see a car on the Indian range

Oh boys take me back
I wanna ride in Geronimo's Cadillac
Oh boys I wanna see it for real

Indian Prayer

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.

I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.

I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
of Beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the star-shine of the night.

I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.

Do not stand at myt grave and cry,
I am not there. I do not die.

Ponder for the day

"We are already whole, even when there is something wrong with us. No matter what is wrong with you there is still more right with you than wrong with you, as long as you are still breathing."

Something to keep in mind when you think everything is going wrong with you. As long as you are breathing you have more all right with you. Sure beats the alternative.

Went for a walk today

Went for a walk at lunch time today. Haven't done that for a while. We have huge snow banks since the blizzard hit us. I remember when I was a child going for walks with my mom and climbing those "big hills" and trailing along behind her. Oh to be a kid again and climb those hills, lol. But I will get to experience that all again through my DS in the coming winters. Won't that be fun! :-)

Silly thought for the day

Wisconsin - where the gnomes run free. If you drink just the right amount you can see them dancing around your bed. :-)

If there is to be peace in the nations ...

Found this on www.mjlacore.net. Thought it was a good thing to know and remember. The blog I got it from was written by a gentleman who is over in Iraq.

If there is to be peace in the world,
There must be peace in the nations.

If there is to be peace in the nations,
There must be peace in the cities.

If there is to be peace in the cities,
There must be peace between neighbors.

If there is to be peace between neighbors,
There must be peace in the home.

If there is to be peace in the home,
There must be peace in the heart.

Decided I absolutely love this!

Found this on Republic of Tea. Also found a similar one on another site that has a copper bowl instead of a plastic bowl. The price was $125! I think I'd stick with the plastic bowl, lol. Too bad I couldn't just make it myself for less money.
