Well ... it's done, among other things, lol

My house is a loverly mess, my boys have been ignored. I was even frozen a bit last night when a fan was brought into my bedroom to get the smell of stain out. But my wheel is done! I put two coats of poly on it. I probably won't be able to touch it again til about 9 p.m. So still no photos.

I have a bunch of updates to do this week. Not sure if I will have time for it all. I want to get my second sock done this week. Not sure when I will have time to finish it up. Still need to pick out a pattern for a washcloth.

I'm just so busy with stuff -- and tired. I feel tired from all this stuff, lol.

Things have to slow down at some point, right?

My Kromski came yesterday!



I took it out of the box last night and gave everything a once over. Everything looks good. I'm going to stain it today. And give it a coat of probably poly tomorrow. It looks like I won't be able to use the shellac because it dries too quickly and I wouldn't get an even coat on the wheel.

But it's here! and it's so pretty!

Hedera socks

Hedera's. You would think that I'd have that simple little 4 row repeat memorized after finishing one sock. Not so, lol. I was really hoping to have the second one done this week. I don't know if it's gonna happen. Pictures will be coming as soon as I'm done with the pair.

Niddy Noddy ~ all stained and prettied!

Here is my niddy noddy, all stained and varnished.


The stain is a custom job. called fireside. I plan on using this color for the spinning wheel.


Three coats of amber shellac was put on the niddy noddy. I absolutely love the warm glow this shellac gives to wood.

The fiber is some ashland colonial top that I spun on my current spinning wheel some time ago. I still have to set the twist on this stuff.

January 2009 finished objects

Who doesn't love finished objects!? :-)

First washcloth of the year. It was a lot of fun to knit. I ran out of varigated yarn at the very end though ... It's called "round cotton washcloth" (ravelry link) I would definitely make this one again.


My very first pair of Monkey's. Also my first time knitting on two circs. That was an experience, lol. But I think I like knitting on two circs because I don't have to worry about DS running up to me and poking an eye out or something.

When DS seen me making a pair of socks he kept asking if I would make him a pair of socks. I promised him I would. As soon as I finished the monkey's I pulled out some aran weight yarn and made him a pair. He wants green socks so tomorrow I will kettle dye them and post a picture as soon as they dry. He is just thrilled with them so far though. He put them on his feet right away and was showing them off to dad and grandma.


I'm bummed I never got to work on Serendipity at all this month. I looked at it once or twice though ... Maybe next month ...

This has been a pretty rough month for me. I'm happy to have gotten what I did done though.

On another note. I ordered a spinning wheel. I'm thrilled to bits. It's a Kromski Minstrel.

I ordered it from Copper Moose. So far I'm real happy with customer service. I have received my niddy noddy and TWO POUNDS of corridale fiber. I love that the fiber is natural so I can play around with dyes.

The plan for next month is the "Hedera's" that I started earlier this month but ripped. And I haven't decided on a washcloth pattern yet.

Book ~ Twilight book 1

After a bunch of my online buddies read this book I decided I had better jump on the bandwagon and give it a read (or listen in my case).

Twilight is a book that I didn't think I would get into very much since I'm not much of a fan of vampires and the like. Then I remembered what a scifi geek I am and that I loved watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer and one of my favorite movies is Underworld. I did read "Interview with a Vampire" and see the movie way back when.

For those who live in a closet: This is a story about a girl who exiled herself from her beloved hometown of Pheonix to live in Forks, Washington with her father. Her mother remarried to a baseball player and wanted to travel with him. Bella, the main character falls in love with Edward, a vampire, and naturally bad things happen and he rescues her over and over. I wouldn't necessarily say that they live happily ever after at the end of the book but if you didn't have an inkling as to what was gonna happen in the later books you do feel a bit of sadness and longing. Oh to be young and in love. :-) You feel everything so much more passionately and I can certainly see how this book appeals to young girls.

I have to agree with some people that the writing was a bit loose and long-winded. I listened to the first 4 discs or so listening to long descriptions and not a whole lot happening. However, lol, once something finally got going I was hooked.

It took me a while to actually listen to the book though. Probably close to 6 weeks. And after a bit I started listening to it again from the beginning because I knew I had missed minute details.

I am looking forward to listening to the next books. I am (naturally) swept up into the story and have tons of Twilight things in my Ravelry cue. Will I ever knit any of it. Hard to say, lol.
